FULL-TIME POSITION
• Herbicide Spray Technician - $24,763 FT - Skilled work in the operation of moderately complex spraying equipment for herbicide and pesticide spraying in the County. Must have minimum of two years herbicide spray equipment operation/application (or equivalent combination of related education, training and/or experience). HS/equivalency required, Licenses (required): Restricted Use Applicator License (commercial or public), Aquatic Weed Control and Right-of-Way Control License (Dept. of Agriculture). Class A or B CDL License with safe driving record, no more than 3 points off license.
• Lifeguard II - $10.58 (Season-PT) - Responsible for the safety of the patrons at Sports Complex Pool. Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR. Previous lifeguard experience is required.
• Lifeguard I - $8.59 hr. (Seasonal-PT) - Responsible for the safety of the patrons at Sports Complex Pool. Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, American Red Cross or American Heart infant, child and adult CPR.
• Public Works Director - The Okeechobee Board of County Commissioners is now accepting applications for the position of Public Works Director. Successful applicant will administer, plan and direct the operations of the Public Works Division which includes the areas of Airport, Engineering, Road Maintenance, Solid Waste, Surveying and Stormwater. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Deputy County Administrator. Typical duties include: assisting with the preparation and implementation of Public Works objectives and activities; monitoring Public Works projects including work performed by contractors; providing technical assistance and solving technical field problems; reviewing and making recommendations on building and development plans submitted to the County; and preparing annual budget and capital improvement proposals. Successful candidate will plan, organize, direct, control, coordinate, supervise and evaluate programs, plans, services, staffing, equipment and infrastructure of the Public Works Department.
Applicants must have:
-Knowledge and experience of preparation and administration of an annual budget, preferably in a local government environment.
-Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and inspect all public works programs and activities and to plan long range public works programs.
-Knowledge of transportation-related construction plans, software and surveying, infrastructure maintenance programs, methods and materials, and statutes relating to county roads and related maintenance funding; and all other areas of responsibilities.
Required Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in Civil Engineering or related field plus five (5) years of progressive supervisory and administrative experience in the Public Works field or equivalent combination of related training and experience. Salary - $61,908 (minimum) DOQ. Directors must reside within Okeechobee County and must have a valid Florida Driver’s license. • Building Official/Building and Code Enforcement Director - The Okeechobee Board of County Commissioners is now accepting applications for the position of Building Official/Building and Code Enforcement Director. Successful applicant will be responsible for administration of the Building Department, Code Enforcement and contractor licensing. Requires thorough knowledge of standard construction codes, construction permitting, and code enforcement practices and procedures. Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the local construction industry and the general public is essential; current building code administrator certification required; undergraduate degree in a related field and equivalent professional experience with a local government jurisdiction of comparable size and development characteristics preferred. • Summer Day Camp Manager (Seasonal Position) - 8 weeks/begins 6-13 to 8-3 - $11.22/40 hrs. Planning & organizing a day camp for approx. 30-60 children and supervising staff members. Recreation, physical education majors and/or child care experience required. Current CPR & First Aid certifications desirable. HS/equivalency required.
• Asst. Day Camp Manager- (4 Seasonal positions) - 8 weeks/begins 6-13 to 8-3 -$10.58/40 hrs. Supervises Summer Food program and/or implements planned programs for approx. 30-60 children. Recreation, physical education majors and/or child care experience required. Current CPR & First Aid certifications desirable. HS/equivalency required.
